Industrial Noise Suppression
Safety valves, vents, blowers, and compressors can produce noise of 150 to 160 dB(A), which risks hearing damage and neighbour complaints. Hurll Nu-Way supplies Axces vent silencers, diffusers, baffle silencers, pulsation dampeners, and separators, designed to the noise level you need to reach.
Silencers by noise source
Each silencer is designed to the flow, pressure, and noise reduction needed.
Safety valves and vents
Vent silencers cut the noise when steam, gas, or vapour is vented to atmosphere.
- Vent silencersFor steam, gas, and vapour vents
Control valves
Diffusers downstream of a valve reduce the pressure drop across it, and the noise with it.
- DiffusersCompact, no maintenance
Blowers and compressors
Pulsation dampeners even out pressure pulses from lobe blowers and screw compressors, cutting noise and pipe damage.
- Pulsation dampenersFor lobe and screw machines
Fans, ducts, and engines
Baffle silencers absorb noise in ducts, fan and engine exhausts, and boiler vents.
- Baffle silencersRectangular or cylindrical
- SeparatorsRemove particles from gas streams
Designing to a noise limit
To design a silencer we need the gas or steam, the flow, the pressure, the temperature, the connection size, and the noise level you need to reach at a set distance. Silencers are then sized to hit that level without adding too much back pressure.
Send us the details, or the noise survey if you have one, and we will recommend the silencer.

Overhaul and repairNoise suppression FAQs
How loud is a venting safety valve?
Venting steam, gas, or vapour often reaches 150 to 160 dB(A), which is why vent silencers are fitted.
How does a diffuser reduce valve noise?
It sits just downstream of the valve and takes part of the pressure drop, which reduces the noise the valve generates. It is compact and needs no maintenance.
What does a pulsation dampener do?
It evens out the pressure pulses from lobe blowers and screw compressors, which reduces noise and protects the pipework from low-frequency vibration.
What do you need to design a silencer?
The gas or steam, flow, pressure, temperature, connection size, and the noise level you need to reach.
Are silencers custom made?
Yes. Each silencer is designed to the duty and the noise reduction needed.

Need noise brought down?
Send us the noise source, the duty, and the level you need to reach, and we will recommend the right silencer.
