Smelting and Melting Furnace Burners
Smelting and melting furnaces need high, steady heat and a flame that stays stable as the firing rate changes. Hurll Nu-Way supplies Nu-Way Multiplex and FMP burners for larger furnaces and Bentone STG burners for smaller melting furnaces, on gas, LPG, oil, or dual fuel, and commissions and services them.
Burners by furnace size
Figures are each range's full span. We size the burner to the furnace.
Smaller melting furnaces
Compact gas burners for small melting and holding furnaces.
- Bentone STG18 to 144 kW · NG, LPG, biogas
Larger furnaces
Industrial burners with wide turndown and stable flames from low gas and air pressures.
- Nu-Way Multiplex MP60 kW to 11.7 MW · up to 30:1 on gas
- Nu-Way FMPUp to 4,400 kW · packaged
High output package burners
Large modulating package burners where the furnace needs high heat input.
- Bentone BG300 to BG95056 to 3,200 kW
- All process burnersLanemark and Nu-Way
Getting the most from a melting furnace
A burner that turns down well can hold metal at temperature on low fire instead of switching on and off, which saves fuel and keeps the melt steady. Dual fuel burners keep a furnace running if the gas supply is interrupted.
Send us the furnace type, the metal, the melt rate, and the current burner, and our engineers will recommend a burner and gas train.

Book a burner serviceType B approval and AS/NZS 3814
In Australia, industrial gas-fired equipment is classed as Type B gas appliances. Burner and gas train work needs to meet AS/NZS 3814 and be accepted under your state's Type B approval process. We supply burners and gas trains for Type B installations and work with your gas fitter and inspector.
Smelting and melting furnace FAQs
Which burner suits a small melting furnace?
The Bentone STG covers 18 to 144 kW on natural gas, LPG, or biogas, and is popular for ovens and melting furnaces.
Which burners suit larger furnaces?
Nu-Way Multiplex burners cover 60 kW to 11.7 MW with up to 30:1 turndown on gas, and the packaged Nu-Way FMP goes up to 4,400 kW on gas, oil, or dual fuel.
Can a furnace burner run on oil and gas?
Yes. Nu-Way Multiplex and FMP burners are available for gas, oil, or dual fuel.
Can you replace the burner on an existing furnace?
Yes. Send us the furnace details and the current burner's data plate, and we will match a replacement burner and gas train.
Do furnace burners need to meet a standard?
Yes. In Australia, industrial gas-fired furnaces are Type B appliances, so the burner and gas train must meet AS/NZS 3814 and be accepted under your state's Type B approval process.
